Validus Construction was appointed by a private client in York to design and build a bespoke exterior WC, set into an existing brick archway on the property.
The scope was to create a space that was functional, well-finished, and built to last. A small space with no shortcuts taken.
Most people don’t give much thought to an outdoor toilet, but they should. Done properly, with the right materials and the right attention to detail, even the smallest space on a property can be finished to the same standard as everything else.
The installation began with tongue and groove wall panelling fitted throughout, forming the backdrop for the rest of the finish. Thomas Crapper & Co sanitaryware was specified throughout the project, including a high-level cistern with a brass pull chain and a wall-mounted basin, chosen for the quality and character it brings to a small space. Brushed brass fittings and hardware were used consistently across the installation to tie the finish together.
Natural stone floor tiles were laid to complete the flooring, and a painted hardwood door was fitted into the existing brick archway, integrating the new structure with the original building fabric. Every fixture was specified to work with the others, rather than treated as a series of separate decisions made in isolation.
The same level of care applied at every stage of the project, from the initial sanitaryware specification through to the final finishes. The result is a small space finished to the same standard Validus applies to every project, proof that scale has no bearing on the quality of the work.
