Duration: 3 Weeks
Sector: Residential Construction

Overview

Validus Construction was appointed to carry out the removal, redesign, and rebuilding of a garden wall at a private residence in York. The scope of work included safe tree removal, wall dismantling and reconstruction, ground preparation, and site reinstatement—executed to the highest standard with full health and safety compliance.

The first phase of the project involved clearing the site. Two mature trees were removed by a licensed contractor, including stump grinding to prevent future growth. Temporary fencing was erected along the inner elevation of the work area to secure the site and protect the lawn, which also served as a storage zone for materials throughout the job.

The existing brick wall—approximately 15 linear metres—was carefully dismantled. Usable bricks were cleaned and stored for reuse, while non-salvageable materials were safely removed from the site. The surrounding soil was battered back to make way for the new foundations, and all excess earth was exported.

A new reinforced concrete foundation was poured to support the rebuilt wall, sized at 15 metres long by 600mm wide and 600mm deep, using C35 grade concrete. The wall was rebuilt using a mix of reclaimed and new bricks, in line with the original appearance. Suitable access equipment was used to ensure a safe and efficient rebuild. New copings, totalling 5.5 metres, were sourced to match the original style and finish.

To complete the project, the ground around the new wall was reinstated. Topsoil was delivered via grab wagon and laid to restore the lawn, followed by grass seeding. Site welfare facilities were provided throughout, and the works were carried out under proper supervision with all health and safety requirements fully met.

This project was delivered on time and to a high standard. The finished wall blended seamlessly with the existing structure, and the surrounding area was left clean, level, and ready for use. The client was pleased with the result and the care taken throughout the process.
